Touchscreen Monitors - Its Benefits and Shortcomings
As the more modern kind of display technology, touchscreen monitors have constantly evolved to be able to comply with a variety of needs, be it in an industrial setting, point of sale equipment or in the home front.

Now used everywhere and everyday in our lives via the latest mobile phones, television and game console, this new high tech equipment, nonetheless, could not escape scrutiny as to the benefits the its users get as well as their shortcomings.

Let us first begin first with the points it gained why more and more people opt for touchscreens.:

1. When it comes to size, LCD monitors are lightweight and therefore, slim. As a result, they only take up one-third of the space;

2. As a point of sale equipment, they are flexible and easy to set-up. They can be mounted either permanently or removable and can be transferred to another unit if needed minus additional wires and cable. A digital keyboard can still be integrated in the screen and utilized without having to use the mouse;

3. More data can be displayed in a small area;

4. Makes human and machine interaction simpler and accurate;

5. Touch screens are able to accept hand printing, handwriting, graphics and finger movements;

6. They can also be made resistant to harsh and rugged environments such as in a factory setting where dust and dirt can get into keyboards;

7. In some cases, according to the requirement of their operators, some panels can come with function buttons that respond to pressure rather than electronic sensitivity to allow gloved workers to activate its functions and application.

Then, here are their disadvantages:

1. There is the need to constantly wipe off the screen that gets greasy with constant contact with fingerprints;
2. Continuous or constant tapping of fingertips takes a toll on these monitors.. Hence, they get scratched up which can interfere with both the image and the interface.

3. It are still very expensive;

4. And when they inevitably break down, repairs are likewise expensive, requiring specialized knowledge to fix which becomes an inconvenience;

Now, more and more people opt for LCD monitors for their television sets, computer screens or even mobile phones as obviously the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. But then again, the shortcomings of these touchscreen may soon be addressed as new technology continuously develop in a very fast pace.
